With less than 24 hours until the halving event, Litecoin is experiencing a boom in network fundamentals.
The sentiment of the mining community is measured by two indicators: hashrate and difficulty. Since the beginning of 2023, LTC hashrate has been growing steadily. According to a post by the Litecoin Foundation, the current LTC hashrate is 869.9 TH/s and the difficulty is 25.64 million. The increase in hashrate indicates that more and more miners are joining the LTC community, making the network more secure and reliable.

The upcoming Litecoin halving on August 2, 2023 will reduce the block reward for Litecoin miners from 12.5 LTC to 6.25 LTC. The Litecoin halving is expected to occur at 6:50 PM UTC on August 2, 2023. According to a post on the Litecoin Twitter account, there are less than 1,000 blocks left until the event ends.
However, minor timing discrepancies may occur because halving events are dependent on a specific block height rather than a preset duration.
Every four years, or every 840,000 blocks, the Litecoin halving process reduces the mining reward for transaction verification by 50%. This process will continue until there are no more LTC coins to mine, which is expected to be around 2142.
Litecoin holders increase, social engagement jumps
According to a recent tweet from Santiment, major traders holding between $9,500 and $950,000 worth of LTC are rapidly accumulating as the much-anticipated Litecoin halving event approaches.
Traders see this as a bullish event, just as they do with most coin halvings. According to Santiment, mid-tier Litecoin holders are stockpiling funds for the halving event, with Dolphin and Shark wallets having accumulated 205,400 Litecoin since June 14.
Social analytics service LunarCrush said on July 30 that Litecoin’s social engagement has surged, reaching 2.16 million social engagements in one hour, indicating the depth of activity around social posts. According to LunarCrush, Litecoin’s social engagement continues to rise, indicating increasing community activity and engagement on social posts.
