Bitcoin miner Genesis Digital Assets (GDA) announced on August 1 the launch of three new data centers in South Carolina, USA, Cointelegraph reported. The facilities were put into operation in February and March.

The facilities are located in the western region of the state, with the first one located in an abandoned warehouse in the town of Anderson and having a capacity of 18 megawatts (MW). The next facility opened between the towns of Union and Lockhart the following month with a total capacity of 15 MW.

The company said in a statement that the new facilities are part of an expansion plan in the U.S. "We are impressed by how enthusiastically the local community has welcomed us as an economic opportunity," said Ankit Joshi, head of GDA North America.

GDA emphasized that these facilities will use clean energy. The Anderson data center will use Hitachi dry-type distribution transformers and transmit electricity back to the grid when needed. GDA CEO Andrey Kim said: "Our goal is to become an industry leader and show the world that Bitcoin mining can be very ESG (environmental, social and governance) compliant."

GDA has established more than 20 Bitcoin mining farms in North America, Europe and Central Asia with a total capacity of more than 400 megawatts.
