According to Odaily Planet Daily, the Paraguayan government urged lawmakers to pass a bill that would impose up to 10 years in prison on illegal Bitcoin miners in response to the massive electricity theft that threatens the state-owned National Electricity Administration (ANDE). The bill gives Paraguayan police and prosecutors the power to confiscate and sell illegal mining machines to protect ANDE from huge financial losses caused by energy theft. More than 5,000 ASIC miners have been confiscated this year in the crackdown, and the legislative process could also lead to a temporary ban on Bitcoin mining in the country.
