The largest cross-chain bridge in the blockchain. All funds, including user assets, are in the hands of the boss alone. There is no need for multiple signatures to complete such a large project. The whole family is still in the country, and there is not even anyone abroad who can temporarily host it, Sir. If you catch someone, you can forcibly take away all the assets of the project, completely regardless of whether they belong to him or not, and whether the users live or die. That's ridiculous... It's ridiculous...
1. On May 21, 2023, Multichain CEO Zhao Jun was taken away from his home by Chinese police and has since lost contact with the global Multichain team. The team contacted the MPC node operators and learned that their operational access keys to the MPC node servers had been revoked. Moreover, these MPC node servers, like other ordinary servers, actually run under Zhaojun's personal cloud server account. No member of the team has access to Zhaojun's personal cloud server account, so no one can log into these MPC servers.
2. Subsequently, the task force contacted Zhaojun’s family and learned that all of Zhaojun’s computers, mobile phones, hardware wallets, and mnemonic phrases had been confiscated by the authorities. Since the launch of the project, all operating funds and investor investments have been controlled by Zhaojun. This also means that all the team's funds and access to the server are in the hands of Zhaojun and the police.
3. Due to the lack of case-related information, the team can only try its best to maintain the operation of the project through the remaining access rights on some non-MPC servers that have not yet been revoked. Based on the lawyer's advice, the team chose to cooperate with the requests of Zhaojun's family as much as possible and comply with the requirements of local laws and regulations by not disclosing unauthorized case information to the public.
4. On May 30, in line with the attitude of being responsible to the community, the team released the news of Zhaojun’s disappearance and informed the community of the technical problems currently faced.
5. On June 4, Zhaojun’s family successfully logged into the cloud server platform using historical information on their home computer. However, Zhaojun's family only allowed Multichain team engineers physical access to the home computers to fix technical issues with Router2 and Router5.
6. During this period, Zhaojun’s family and lawyers have been communicating with the police. The team was not informed of the details of the case, but was informed that Zhaojun was about to be released from prison and asked to continue maintaining the system while waiting for further news.
7. Multi-chain protocols continue to function as designed. The team does its best with limited resources to maintain the operation of the multi-chain protocol and solve user problems as much as possible.
8. On July 7, user assets locked at the MPC address were abnormally transferred to an unknown address. According to Sister Zhaojun, the login information of the Kunming IP address was found on the cloud server platform, as well as a series of operations for transferring money from the MPC address.
9. On July 9, Sister Zhaojun transferred the remaining user assets in the router pool, and then notified the team and multiple project parties of the asset preservation action. The funds were transferred to an EOA address controlled by Zhaojun’s sister. 0x1eed63efba5f81d95bfe37d82c8e736b974f477b 0x6b6314f4f07c974600d872182dcde092c480e57b
10. On July 13, according to information provided by Zhaojun’s family, the police detained Zhaojun’s sister. Now, Zhaojun's sister has also lost contact. The status of the assets she preserves is uncertain, so the team felt it was necessary to inform the community of all known conditions.
11. Due to lack of alternative sources of information and corresponding operating funds, the team was forced to cease operations. If there are any further announcements and developments, the team will update the community accordingly.
12. The multi-chain team does not have access to domain accounts to redirect or shut down the front-end so the team feels it is necessary to inform the community of all known situations.
