There has been a major cryptocurrency event every year since 2009, and today we will sort them out in chronological order.

2009: Satoshi Nakamoto launches Bitcoin in the aftermath of the global financial crisis. BTC is a protocol that enables a secure and decentralized ledger.

2013: Dogecoin was the first popular memecoin, created by Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer to poke fun at the wild speculation in cryptocurrencies at the time.

2014: Monero or XMR, is a cryptocurrency focused on private and censorship-resistant transactions.

2015: Ethereum launches as a proof-of-work blockchain with $ETH as the currency for processing transactions on-chain.

2016: Zcash is a simple, secure digital currency that protects your privacy. It is based on the Bitcoin codebase and has many similarities, such as a fixed total supply of 21 million units.

2017: Cardano is an open-source, decentralized public blockchain platform that uses proof-of-stake for consensus.

2018: The Nervos Network is an open-source, modular blockchain network consisting of multiple blockchain layers designed for different functions.

2019: Algorand is a green blockchain that builds technology to accelerate the integration between decentralization and traditional finance.

2020: Binance Smart Chain, Binance’s first layer blockchain, is launched, which uses BNB as a gas token.

2021: Arbitrum One launches its mainnet, an optimistic rollup and one of the most successful Ethereum L2 chains.

2022: Optimism’s $OP token is launched. Optimism is a second layer chain that significantly reduces gas costs compared to its L1 counterpart Ethereum.
