RISE OF “ICE PHISHING” ATTACKS

On June 21,Forta Network published a report on a new practice used by scammers in the crypto ecosystem. Called “Sleepdropping”,this scam aims to make the user believe that he has taken advantage of an airdrop

The process is simple, but cruelly effective. To do this, the scammer will create an ERC-20 token and send many tokens to user addresses. The goal is to pass off this transfer as an airdrop from a legitimate smart contract. This is Sleepdropping

As it stands,the technique poses no risk to the user if he ignores the transfer. Nevertheless, the scammer includes a phishing link on the token in the hope that the user will view it after discovering the transactions on Etherscan. This is a method called “Ice Phishing”
