On-chain data shows that the first transaction in Gate.io's hot wallet was also on April 21, 2018, which indicates that Gate.io concealed the fact that the funds were stolen.

In addition, Lookonchain also stated that by analyzing Gate.io’s 4 wallets on Ethereum, it was found that Gate.io only had $479 million in assets.
