Often before deciding to participate in the initial sale of a crypto project, we are advised to read the project whitepaper first in order to understand the function of the coin and the main goals and background of the development company.
Beginner investors need to master this as their first preparation before investing in the crypto industry.
What is a Whitepaper?
A White Paper is a document released by a developer containing a collection of data and information regarding technology, business plans, solutions to problems, and details of the goals of the project they are working on.
Through this article, investors can find out whether the project they are working on is worthy of support based on the quality of the white paper.
Simply put, a whitepaper is the main face of a crypto company, it is the document that will be the main magnet in attracting investors in the initial coin sale or raising funds used to run the project.
A whitepaper consists of various aspects, but basically the following points need to be included in it:
- Introduction or Intro
- Disclaimer (limitation of liability)
- List of contents
- Description of the background of the problem to be solved and market objectives
- An explanation of the product or service and how it will be a solution to the problem
- Detailed information about tokens and their distribution scheme; supply, etc
- Explanation of how the funds collected will be used to achieve the goal
- List of teams involved behind the project
- Roadmap or project development plan in the next few years.
White Paper Examples
So far, whitepaper writing is more or less the same type and not much different. This is because several successful projects actually become a reference for developers to write in a similar format.
Here are some examples of project whitepapers that have succeeded in raising massive funding:
- Ethereum: whitepaper published in 2013 raised $15.5 million US dollars before the project launched in 2015
- Cardano: the whitepaper for the Cardano project was published in 2017 which includes design, technology, the system's ability to process information, and others. The full version of the document can be viewed here
- Quoine: managed to raise $105 million US dollars
- DigixDAO: managed to raise $5.5 million US dollars
