Odaily Planet Daily News Recently, the first large-scale coin theft case in Ningbo, prosecuted by the Ningbo Jiangbei District Procuratorate, was tried by the court. After the court trial, 7 defendants were sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment ranging from 3 years to 4 years and 10 months for the crime of theft. It is reported that from June to December 2021, the defendant Su Moumou and 7 others posted websites implanted with Trojan software on the Internet to trick others into downloading. Once someone clicks to download, the computer is invaded and remotely controlled. Su Moumou and others can manipulate the victim's computer and steal the virtual currency from his virtual currency account. At the same time, they also pretended to be the victim to provide accounts to their friends to receive virtual currency. The coin theft gang has a clear division of labor. The boss He Moumou (handled in another case) is responsible for providing funds for renting houses, renting servers, purchasing computers and Trojan programs, and paying other people's wages; Su Moumou is responsible for directing and specific operations, including recruiting people, assigning tasks, etc., and others are responsible for logging into the victim's account remotely and forwarding coin laundering addresses. Mr. Xu, a citizen of Ningbo, is the victim. In December 2021, Mr. Xu discovered that more than 1.61 million Tether coins in his account had disappeared. A few days later, Mr. Xu contacted a friend through a software to ask for virtual currency. After sending the address to his friend, he did not receive it. He asked the other party but was told that the virtual currency had already been transferred. Mr. Xu checked the chat records and found that the account had been replaced by someone, and his friend's virtual currency was directly deposited into the account of the thief gang. Only then did Mr. Xu realize that his account had been stolen. It turned out that after Su Moumou invaded Mr. Xu's computer, he also monitored his dynamics in real time. Once he monitored the chat records between Mr. Xu and his friends involving virtual currency transactions, he logged into Mr. Xu's chat account in a different place and received more than 3.98 million Tether coins and 100 Ethereum coins from the victim's friends by replacing the virtual currency account. In addition, Su Moumou and others took the initiative to "borrow" 100,000 Tether coins from another friend of Mr. Xu, pretending to be Mr. Xu. The procuratorate determined that He Moumou cashed out a total of 28 million yuan in virtual currency. After the incident, the public security organ recovered some of the virtual currency by freezing the receiving account. He Moumou took the initiative to compensate Mr. Xu 15 million yuan and was forgiven by the other party. The other defendants also returned all their illegal gains and compensated the victims for their losses.
