Burkhard Baltz, a member of the Supreme Executive Board of the Deutsche Bundesbank, stated bluntly at the 2023 Tsinghua University PBC Global Finance Forum on the 20th that the digital euro will not only be an option but also a necessity if the widespread use of central bank currency is to be maintained as society enters the digital age. Through the digital euro, our goal is to deliver all the advantages of cash to the digital field. The digital euro will enable the public to have access to efficient and convenient payment methods. It will be widely used throughout the euro area, just like cash today. Baltz also mentioned that when people ask me when the digital euro can be distributed among users, I remain cautious. We are talking about at least three years, so it may not happen before 2027. (National Express)
