Queen Maxima of the Netherlands spoke at a conference on “Establishing a legislative framework for a digital euro for citizens and businesses” about the multiple benefits that central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) could bring, especially in the area of financial inclusion.
Queen Maxima focused on discussing financial inclusion and how a digital euro could “benefit underserved groups,” explaining that “traditional financial services create barriers to financial inclusion” due to high transaction fees, minimum account balances, and cumbersome documentation requirements. She believes that “governments could use a digital euro to provide financial support to low-income households. This would deepen long-term inclusion and serve as a gateway to other financial services.” (Bitcoin.com)
