Another popular token has become embroiled in a crisis of trust. On-chain monitoring shows that 1,285 wallets associated with the Puffpaw ecosystem token VAPE have very low on-chain activity. Meanwhile, a controversial prediction market about the project on Polymarket continues to gain traction, as doubts about its holder distribution and the authenticity of its trading activity mount.
The sudden appearance of large numbers of low-activity wallets usually points to one of three possibilities: clusters of sybil addresses farming airdrops, wash trading to create an illusion of prosperity, or large holders splitting funds across wallets to evade on-chain tracking. None of these scenarios is a good sign for ordinary retail investors: impressive holder counts and trading volumes do not necessarily reflect genuine market consensus.
Even more intriguing is the role of prediction markets. Polymarket is supposed to be a tool for information discovery, but when a controversial asset itself becomes the subject of a bet, sentiment and money can reinforce each other. Retail investors who blindly follow the crowd amid information asymmetry often end up holding the bag.
Going forward, keep an eye on three things: whether the project team publicly responds and discloses the distribution of addresses; whether low-activity wallets are flagged or removed; and whether the share of genuine trading addresses recovers. Until the fundamentals are clarified, managing position sizes and avoiding high leverage matter far more than chasing short-term volatility. Narratives can be hyped; on-chain data doesn't lie.
