The U.S. stock market is closed on weekends, so spot ETFs don’t create or redeem shares either. Authorized participants are off, and the creation and redemption channels are shut. That means ETF inflows are absent over the weekend. $BTC is currently trading at $75,828, up 0.26% over 24 hours.

Over the weekend, Bitcoin’s price is determined only by spot and derivatives markets, and buying support is thinner than on weekdays. The same selling pressure can cause bigger swings, with little connection to news. Once creations and redemptions resume on Monday, arbitrage traders return to close price gaps, and some of the extreme moves over the weekend will be reversed.

This mechanism is worth remembering: some of the volatility over the weekend simply reflects the fact that the channel is closed.
