Over the past 90 days, $BTC has risen about 16.8% on Binance, while $APT has barely moved, going from around 0.603 USDT to around 0.605.
People say high-beta coins amplify Bitcoin’s moves, both up and down. So where did the upside go? I broke down the daily candlesticks for these 90 days to take a look.
There were 9 days when BTC rose more than 2% in a single day. APT also rose on 8 of those days, gaining an average of about 6.7%, compared with about 5.1% for BTC over the same period. It amplified the move, but only by about 1.3 times.
There were also 9 days when BTC fell more than 2% in a single day. APT fell along with it on 8 of those days, dropping an average of about 7.6%, compared with about 3.1% for BTC over the same period. This time, the move was amplified about 2.4 times.
It tracks BTC closely in terms of direction. The problem is the magnitude: when Bitcoin rises, APT rises a little more; when Bitcoin falls, APT falls a lot further. After a few rounds of this, the gains get wiped out by the losses.
If you’re holding spot, and bought APT hoping to “capture a bit more upside than BTC,” the data from these 90 days doesn’t really support that idea. If you trade futures, pay even closer attention to how it amplifies BTC’s down days. With the same leverage, APT’s drawdown can be much deeper than you’d expect based on BTC.
When you pick altcoins, do you look at how they perform on the days Bitcoin falls?
Data from Binance’s public spot-market APTUSDT and BTCUSDT daily candlestick endpoints, covering August 9 to November 6, 2026 (UTC days). “Moves of more than 2%” are calculated from the day’s open to its close. Data retrieved at 00:00 on November 8 (Beijing time). Not investment advice.
