If you only took a look at $FIL in late September, you might have thought it was coming back to life.
That month, it rose on Binance from about 0.6823 USDT to about 1.0433, a gain of roughly 52.9%. For a coin that spent most of its time trending downward, a month like that was rare, and suddenly a lot more people in the group were talking about it.
Looking at the past year as a whole, the picture looks quite different.
1. First, the full year
Using the latest 365 daily candles for FILUSDT on Binance, the starting price was about 1.894 at the open on November 7, 2025, and the closing price on November 6, 2026 was about 0.8175—a drop of roughly 56.8% over the year.
The high for the year was about 3.973, reached on the very first day, during a spike on November 7, 2025. Based on yesterday’s closing price, it’s still about 79.4% below that high. To get back there, the price would need to rise about 386%—roughly 4.9 times its current level.
The low was around 0.6095, reached on August 18, 2026. From there to yesterday’s close, it rebounded about 34.1%.
2. Only 4 of 12 full months closed higher
From November 2025 to October 2026, only 4 of the 12 full months closed higher: November 2025, up about 3.6%; April 2026, up about 10.8%; May, up about 1.6%; and September, up about 52.9%.
The other 8 months were all down, with the steepest drop in June, at about -23.5%. December last year, and January, March, and October this year, were each down more than 16%.
So that September surge wasn’t the start of a trend. It was more like the biggest rebound of the year; the second-biggest, in April, was only about 10.8%.
3. What happened after September
FIL fell about 16.4% in October, and is down another 8.9% so far in November. From the late-September close of around 1.0433 to about 0.7944 when I retrieved the data, it had already given back about 23.9%.
It hasn’t given back all of September’s gains yet, but the direction is clear.
4. Fewer people are paying attention
Over the past 90 days, FIL’s average daily trading volume on Binance spot was about 12.42 million USDT. The equivalent figure for the 90 days a year ago was about 32.96 million. It’s now only about 38% of what it was then.
Lower trading volume means the same amount of money can move the price further. That’s part of why it rose so quickly in September—and why it fell just as quickly.
5. How different people might read these numbers
Newcomers are most easily drawn in by “up 53% in one month.” But there was only one month like that this year. It came after three consecutive months of declines, and October and November so far have also both been down.
If you hold spot, consider this: if you chased the price in September, you’d be down a little over 20% now. And if you’ve held since a year ago, that September rally still wouldn’t have brought you back to breakeven.
For futures traders, thinner volume can make sharp wicks more pronounced. When I retrieved the data, the funding rate for FILUSDT perpetuals was about 0.0022%, close to neutral. That suggests neither side is particularly crowded, but it doesn’t mean things will be calm from here.
If you’re researching the project, the more useful question is: did trading volume fall from 32.96 million to 12.42 million because the whole sector cooled off, or because interest in this coin itself is fading? You can’t answer that just by looking at the candlestick chart.
6. My own take
It’s not unusual for a weak coin to have an occasional big rally. What really matters is whether it can hold on to those gains afterward. In the two months since FIL’s September rally, the answer so far is no.
That doesn’t mean it can’t rise again. It’s just a reminder to myself: don’t remember only the best month and forget the other eight down months.
Would a coin’s big gain in one month make you pay attention to it again?
