Adding to the position while sitting on unrealized losses: A whale withdrew around 13,000 ETH from Binance in a week

On-chain monitoring shows that address 0x4AB7 bought a total of around 13,077 ETH over the past week, worth approximately $29.95 million. About two hours ago (around 20:27 HKT), it also withdrew 3,300 ETH from Binance, worth about $7.41 million. The same data indicates an average entry price of around $2,290 for these holdings, putting them at an unrealized loss of about $680,000 at the time—still adding while the books are already in the red.

This is directly relevant to holders and those sitting on the sidelines: large withdrawals from exchanges to self-custody reduce the amount available for sale on the order book in the short term. But one whale’s move doesn’t mean the market has bottomed, and certainly shouldn’t be treated as a trading signal. It only shows that a large investor is willing to keep building a position at this price and is, for now, prepared to ride out the unrealized loss.

What to watch next: whether this address continues withdrawing ETH from exchanges, whether flows into and out of spot ETH ETFs shift in the same direction, and whether the whale suddenly dumps back onto the order book if the unrealized loss grows. Don’t mistake “someone is adding to their position” for “the bottom is confirmed.”

If you hold ETH, are you paying more attention lately to large holders’ on-chain withdrawals or to ETF flows?

This is not investment advice.
