How prepared is Bitcoin to withstand quantum computers?
In its Q3 update published on November 5, 2026, Blockstream reiterated its assessment of Falcon-1024 as a leading lattice-based signature candidate for Bitcoin.
Simply put: researchers are looking for new “locks” to prepare for future quantum risks.
But this is not an upgrade that Bitcoin has implemented. The original research dates back to August 26; Blockstream still notes that standards need to be finalized and implementation issues resolved. For now, it considers hash-based signatures the more conservative option.
Fual’s take: what’s worth watching is the standardization process, testing, and technical discussion. A strong candidate doesn’t mean the entire network has changed its security mechanisms.
Don’t turn research news into a reason to FOMO or panic.
Which matters more to you: upgrade speed or reliability after testing?
