The U.S. Treasury has dealt another blow: OFAC has added 8 Canadian money services businesses (MSBs) to its sanctions list, accusing them of helping Iran convert rials into crypto and move money across borders.
This is a different weapon from this morning’s FinCEN cutoff of MEXC deposits and withdrawals. This time it’s the SDN list, targeting Iran’s digital asset sector under E.O. 13902 and naming Million Exchange, Amin Exchange, NIA Nations, Farah Exchange, CCC / Cryptoyal, Darvish Exchange, and others. Officials say they had dealings with previously sanctioned Iranian exchanges and addresses linked to the IRGC; several also helped former Olympic snowboarder and sanctioned drug trafficker Ryan Wedding launder cash into crypto and send it abroad.
The action falls under “Operation Economic Outcast” and was coordinated with FinCEN and Canada’s FINTRAC. The U.S. continues to cut off Iran’s crypto off-ramps—after offshore exchanges, it’s now the fiat-to-crypto exchange outlets in Canada.
