#非农就业数据推升加息预期

Overnight, the closely watched U.S. October nonfarm payrolls report was released. The labor market once again proved stronger than expected, completely reversing near-term expectations for monetary easing and prompting a repricing of the Federal Reserve’s policy path.

The key figures were strikingly strong: nonfarm payrolls rose by 165,000 in October, far exceeding market expectations of around 65,000, while figures for the previous two months were revised up by a combined 84,000. The unemployment rate fell to 4.1%, the labor force participation rate edged up, and wage growth rebounded in tandem. Employment, wages, and participation all strengthened.

The strong jobs report directly reshaped expectations for Fed rates: the market-implied probability of a 25-basis-point rate hike in December surged from 67% previously to nearly 80%. A persistently hot labor market and stronger-than-expected wage growth suggest that the U.S. economy has not cooled meaningfully and that inflation may be slow to retreat. Fed rate cuts now look unlikely, while the odds of renewed rate hikes have risen sharply.

The rapid rise in rate-hike expectations triggered a chain reaction across markets: Treasury yields jumped in the short term, the U.S. dollar stabilized and strengthened, and risk assets came under broad pressure. U.S. tech stocks, commodities, and crypto markets all weakened in tandem, reflecting expectations that high interest rates will persist longer and liquidity will tighten further.

The market’s central narrative has shifted completely: the previously anticipated “cooling and rate cuts” trade has ended, giving way to a renewed focus on fighting inflation and extending the tightening cycle. Attention will now center on CPI and core PCE inflation data. If inflation picks up again, the Fed is likely to deliver another rate hike before the end of the year, and volatility in global risk assets will continue to rise.

In terms of trading, volatility is high and expectations are shifting sharply, with leverage risks rising quickly. Be sure to keep positions under tight control, avoid chasing rallies, and wait patiently for liquidity and rate expectations to stabilize.
