I came across Vitalik’s interview with Moneycontrol. He put it pretty bluntly: over the next two years, the top priority for exchanges and custodians isn’t to “win,” but to “survive”—what he calls bunker mode.

He noted that over the past year and a half, major security incidents have mostly hit user interfaces and centralized components, while smart contract hacks have become much less common. After Binance’s roughly $6.3 billion incident, that warning hits even harder: if North Korea-linked hackers drain another platform, regulators may impose much stricter security requirements.

The way forward is simple: use multisigs, move critical processes on-chain, and don’t focus solely on market share. Just hearing “exchanges need to get into bunker mode too” is enough to wake you up.
