The U.S. Treasury Department’s FinCEN has ordered MEXC Global to be cut off from the U.S. financial system, alleging that it was involved in at least $16 billion in transactions related to sanctions evasion and other activities. MEXC said its operations are normal and user assets are safe. It is conducting an in-depth assessment of the directive and plans to engage constructively with FinCEN and regulators worldwide, while also launching an independent review of its own anti-money laundering and sanctions controls.

Being cut off from dollar clearing and U.S. financial channels could restrict deposits by U.S. users, market-making by regulated institutions, and the movement of funds in and out of the platform. Liquidity and the withdrawal experience are likely to be affected first, rather than prices collapsing immediately. For the exchange sector as a whole, this is another example of tighter U.S. regulatory enforcement against offshore platforms, which could give compliant exchanges a marginal advantage in gaining market share.

Users who hold MX or keep assets on MEXC should first check whether withdrawals are processing smoothly and whether the platform has sufficient reserves. MX could see significantly higher short-term volatility, making it high-risk to chase a rebound at this point.
