🏗 AI data centers hit a political wall? After the election, expanding computing capacity is about to get more expensive

After the midterm elections, AI infrastructure has a new variable: data center regulation.

📋 What’s happened so far
• Politico cited Cleanview data showing that after the election, 41% of data centers under construction or in the planning stage across the U.S. are in states with existing or proposed moratoriums
• Democrats won gubernatorial seats in Texas, Ohio, and Georgia, where candidates had all pledged during their campaigns to pause or tighten data center approvals
• Reuters roundup: New York State imposed a one-year construction moratorium on data centers over 50 megawatts; Texas Governor Abbott ordered a pause on grid connection approvals for new projects; Pennsylvania removed data centers from its fast-track approval process

🧮 What do analysts think?
• Most analyses suggest that new rules are unlikely to “shut down” data centers, but will make them slower and more expensive to build
• The biggest impact will be on new computing players that rely on debt, as well as projects that won’t come online until around 2028

📉 What does this mean for crypto?
The AI narrative is one of the key pillars supporting risk assets in this cycle. Volatility in the Nasdaq and chip stocks often affects BTC to some extent, too. By raising the cost of AI expansion, regulation could amplify swings in risk appetite in the short term.

📊 BTC is currently around $75,900, with a 24-hour range of about $74,900–$76,400
• Support: $74,900 / $75,200 (recent low zone)
• Resistance: $77,400 / $80,500 (highs from the rebound over the past two weeks)
