Why does Bitcoin often say “wait for 6 confirmations,” while Ethereum talks about “finality”?
On chains that use Tendermint (CometBFT) consensus, such as Cosmos Hub, blocks are final as soon as they’re committed—there’s no need to wait for subsequent blocks.
When depositing or withdrawing across different chains, each chain has a different time to finality, so a slow arrival doesn’t necessarily mean something went wrong.
On Ethereum, staked $ETH is the guarantee of finality: overturning a finalized block would result in a huge loss of stake.
When did everyone figure this out?
