What do the private key, public key, and address behind a wallet each do?
My understanding: no central authority can help you reset your private key. The blockchain only recognizes valid signatures, and anyone who gets hold of your private key can transfer the assets associated with that address.
Bitcoin and Ethereum private keys are essentially 256-bit random numbers, and both use the secp256k1 elliptic curve.
