Scammers are using Binance’s name to ask for a “verification fee” of 0.0042 BTC — and their fake deadline is today.
The facts: Bitdefender Antispam Lab (Nov 3) uncovered two phishing campaigns exploiting the Oct 29 Binance hack (around $6.3 billion). First, a fake “SAFU Reconciliation Desk” email claiming your BTC address is “UNCLAIMED” and promising a BTC allocation — provided you first send a “verification fee” of 0.0042 BTC (around $327). Second, an email impersonating Trust Wallet that threatens to suspend your account after Nov 7 unless you “verify” your wallet. CZ also warned on Nov 5 about fake Trust Wallet websites that lure users into connecting their wallets. Binance itself has never announced any compensation claim process.
My take: This is a second theft targeting the same victims — using the name of Binance’s emergency fund (SAFU) to look official. It’s a classic advance-fee scam: promise a big payout, but require payment upfront. Once BTC is sent, it’s practically impossible to get back. With BTC still hovering around $75,970, emails like this will become more common.
What I’m watching: whether there are reports of new victims after the Nov 7 deadline passes, and whether Binance issues any additional official warnings.
Have you ever received a “compensation” email like this? Tell us in the comments so others can stay alert.
This is my analysis, not financial advice — always DYOR.
