The NU7 upgrade was activated on the mainnet at block 3,543,405.
The target block time dropped from 75 to 25 seconds. Waiting for three confirmations now takes 75 seconds. Fees: 40% go to miners, while 60% are removed from circulation and accumulate in the reserve. Starting in February 2031, the reserve may fund block rewards. The 21 million ZEC limit has not changed. Around 12,224 ZEC in the Sprout pool became inaccessible.
Payments will be faster, and fees will matter more to miners. It’s not yet clear how this will affect network security and the price.
