🚨 He Yi personally confirms: The employee fired for downloading iQIYI on a work computer really was from Binance!
The Binance $6.3 billion theft incident is still unfolding, and He Yi has responded to another internal management incident that has sparked widespread discussion.
She said on X:
「The person who got fired for downloading iQIYI on a work computer was also at Binance. We’ll accept the loss and pay the price, but it must not happen again.」
The remark may seem casual, but it reveals an issue all Web3 teams should be wary of: corporate security often starts failing at the most overlooked details.
According to Binance’s previously released preliminary investigation:
1️⃣ Fake recruitment attack: Hackers used fraudulent interview assignments to approach engineers.
2️⃣ Malware planted: An employee downloaded code disguised as an interview assignment onto a work computer, infecting the device with a Trojan.
3️⃣ Internal security risks: The attackers then exploited internal tools to expand their control.
4️⃣ Assets stolen: After months of preparation, the assets were finally transferred on October 29.
⚠️ It’s important to distinguish between the two: Being fired for downloading iQIYI was a separate internal management incident confirmed by He Yi, and was not the direct cause of this hacker attack.
In the AI era, the entry point for a hacker attack may not be the blockchain, but the computer you use every day.
True security isn’t about compensating people after assets are stolen; it’s about building defenses before risks arise.
