Zcash activates NU7 network upgrade on mainnet
#Zcash announced that its major NU7 upgrade has gone live on mainnet at block height 3,543,405. The upgrade cuts the target block time from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, while reducing block subsidies proportionally to keep the rate of new $ZEC issuance largely unchanged. The halving interval is also tripled in block terms, maintaining the existing halving schedule and the 21 million $ZEC supply cap.
NU7 also introduces the Network Sustainability Mechanism, which allocates 60% of transaction fees from each block to a public reserve, leaving miners with the remaining 40%. The accumulated fees will be gradually reintroduced through block rewards starting at block 8,939,664, expected in 2031.
