When checking the funding rate in futures, don’t treat it as a signal for market direction.
As of 20:30 Beijing time, the latest funding rate for Binance $BTC perpetual futures was about 0.0070% (approximately 0.70 basis points), equivalent to an annualized rate of around 7.7%. The rate was slightly positive, meaning longs were paying shorts.
At the same time, spot was trading at around 76,331 USDT, down about 4.7% over 24 hours. When longs are still paying funding while spot continues to fall, it more often means leveraged longs haven’t fully exited—not that a bottom is imminent.
When the funding rate is very small, its impact on short-term costs is often more tangible than its value as a “sentiment signal.” Trade spot according to your own pace, and factor funding costs into your calculations before opening futures positions.
