South Korea’s Gopax exchange suddenly suspended withdrawals and trading today, saying it had received a threatening email from someone claiming to be a hacker. The claim has yet to be verified, but the exchange has already started moving users’ assets to cold wallets.

Withdrawals were suspended at around 14:55 Korea time, followed by trading at 15:53. Unfilled orders were also canceled. Regular withdrawals via the website and app are temporarily unavailable; users must submit manual requests through customer service, which may take longer to process. The exchange says it has not confirmed any asset losses so far, and there’s no timeline yet for resuming services.

After what happened with Binance, exchanges would rather freeze withdrawals and move assets into cold storage first than patch things up after the fact.
