Knowledge Card: Ethereum ERC-20 Standard
ERC-20 is the technical standard for fungible tokens on Ethereum. The corresponding proposal, EIP-20, was introduced in November 2015.
Token balances aren’t stored in wallets; they’re recorded in the token contract’s internal ledger, which wallets simply read.
When adding a custom token, verify the contract address with the project’s official sources and a block explorer. Don’t use one sent by a stranger.
ERC-20 tokens run on Ethereum, and every transfer requires paying Gas with $ETH .
