Tried $75,300 and bounced back, reclaiming $76,200 within an hour
At noon, my call was: “Watch $75,000 this afternoon. A break below it would mean we’re only halfway down the mountain; hold above it, and the floor is still rock-solid.” That move has now played out, and the answer was the latter—but the ride was more nerve-racking than I wrote, and the finish was stronger than I expected. From 13:00 to 16:00, prices drifted steadily lower. At 15:00, the low was $75,304, just $300 above $75,000. My comment that “the long tail is still bleeding” was right. Where I was wrong was the second half: I thought prices would keep grinding lower into the U.S. session, but at 17:00 a single hourly candle surged from $75,680 to $76,291, closing at $76,185. It gained 0.67% on the hour, with $43 million in volume, clawing back the entire afternoon’s losses in 40 minutes. The recovery was faster than I expected; I got that call wrong.
Bitcoin is currently at $76,174, down 5.22% over 24 hours, with an intraday high of $77,006 (midnight) and a low of $75,208 (7:00 a.m.). Ethereum is at $2,239, down 7.33%, with an intraday high of $2,287 and a low of $2,206. Its losses are still clearly greater than Bitcoin’s, and the relative-strength line that broke this morning hasn’t recovered all day. BNB is at $694.2, down 2.97%; it has rebounded $10 from its intraday low of $683.9 but remains below $700, making it the most resilient of the three major coins. Total crypto market capitalization is $2.5786 trillion, down 6.46% over 24 hours. It has recovered from $2.5652 trillion at noon, with losses narrowing from 7.77% to 6.46%. Bitcoin dominance is 59.27%, as capital continues to concentrate in the biggest assets.
Tonight, the key thing to watch is the U.S. stock market open at 22:30. Pre-market data at 17:00 showed mixed futures for the three major indexes: Dow futures were still down 0.8%, while Nasdaq 100 futures were up 1.1%. Chip stocks rebounded across the board: Advanced Micro Devices and TSMC were both up 5.3% pre-market, Nvidia was up 2.9%, and Intel was up 5%. If this rebound holds after the open, then the move at 17:00 wasn’t just short-covering. If Nasdaq futures give back their gains as soon as the market opens, then this was a premature move, and $75,000 will have to be tested again. The key levels are unchanged: hold above $76,000 and watch for $77,000; fall below $75,500 and we’re still only halfway down the mountain.
One more note for tonight: Binance’s latest proof of reserves now includes a zero-knowledge proof, allowing users to independently verify that their assets are backed at least 1:1. At a time like this, reserve transparency can do more to reassure people than prices.
Would you wait for $75,000 to buy more, or do you think $76,200 is already a good entry point?
