Zcash NU 7 Upgrade Countdown: 3x Performance Boost and the Final Chapter for the Original Privacy Pool!

Zcash has officially confirmed that the NU 7 network upgrade will activate at block height 3,543,405. Here are the key highlights:

Block production speeds up by 300
The target block time will drop from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, significantly reducing transaction confirmation delays and increasing on-chain throughput.

The original Sprout privacy pool will be completely retired
v4 transaction format disabled:
v4 is the only way to withdraw from the Sprout pool. After the upgrade, full nodes will reject transactions in this format.

Funds face an indefinite lockup:
Around 12,226 ZEC (approximately $16 million) remain in the pool. Although over 10,000 ZEC were urgently moved out in the preceding week, recent daily outflows have fallen to around 40 ZEC, indicating that the remaining funds are almost certainly lost or dormant.

ZIP 2003 proposal:
It reserves only a theoretical mechanism for redemption in the distant future. Developers have explicitly warned that these assets will most likely never be withdrawable.

With security and performance improvements advancing in tandem, Zcash is officially entering a new era led by the Sapling and Orchard privacy pools.
