The most noticeable change from this Zcash upgrade isn’t the narrative—it’s block production.

Zcash activated the NU7 upgrade at block height 3,543,405, cutting the target block interval from 75 seconds to 25 seconds. According to WuBlockchain, by 04:59 UTC after the upgrade, the actual average interval was about 39 seconds, and mining difficulty was still adjusting. The upgrade also limits the amount of shielded transaction activity in each block to ease the burden on wallet scanning. Of transaction fees, 40% goes to miners, while 60% is set aside for future block rewards. NU7 also deactivates the Sprout shielded pool, temporarily making about 12,224 ZEC unavailable. A recovery plan has yet to be approved.

The actual interval of 39 seconds is still some way off the 25-second target. Hash rate and block production may fluctuate for a while as difficulty retargets. ZEC halvings and issuance are calculated by block height, so faster block production means issuance accelerates proportionally over the same amount of time.

Scenario to watch 1: If support holds on a pullback and difficulty and hash rate stabilize quickly, the upgrade’s technical value will continue to be validated. Scenario to watch 2: If trading volume fails to expand further once the upgrade hype fades, be cautious of short-term profit-taking.

Which matters more to you: the improved confirmation experience from faster block production, or the pressure from accelerated supply issuance?
