$ZEC I've been seeing lots of people talk about it lately, so I thought I'd share my own take.

First, let's talk about ZCash's strengths:

- Simple, easy-to-understand premise: fixed supply, with privacy as its core narrative. Many people see it as “the next Bitcoin.”
- It's hard to value using traditional methods, which is actually an advantage. DeFi projects and ordinary companies can be valued using metrics like revenue and ARR, but ZEC is more of a belief-driven narrative, similar to BTC and some Meme coins, with plenty of room for imagination.
- Its narrative is well positioned to ride the current wave. In particular, with the Democrats currently having the upper hand, the value of privacy coins is likely to get more attention. It has also weathered plenty of negative developments, such as FUD related to quantum computing.
- It has influential figures, capital, and experienced traders backing it.
- Quite a few liquidity funds have chosen to buy and hold.
- Its relative strength has been solid recently, outperforming the broader market.
- The chart looks good technically, and I haven't seen any signs of a top yet.

Now, let's talk about the risks:

- Where will future buying demand come from? People in the crypto community who accumulate coins may add it to their portfolios, but new inflows are uncertain.
- Relative strength isn't necessarily a permanent buff. Many altcoins lead the way before eventually catching up on the downside. HYPE went through this phase before, and its strength could reverse at any time.
- Unlike some projects, it doesn't have ongoing automatic buybacks to create buying demand, nor a steady inflow of funds to provide support (for example, HYPE has a built-in mechanism for continuous buying).
- If BTC has a deep correction, ZEC will most likely get dumped along with it.
- Regulatory risk is hanging over it. Under a Democratic administration, privacy coins are a key focus. If the U.S. introduces a ban, it could easily lose half its value in the short term.
- The privacy narrative looks appealing, but it's not very relevant to ordinary people's daily lives. Compared with sectors like AI, which generate news and practical applications every day, interest could easily fade over time.

At the end of the day, what I care about most is new buying demand. Ordinary retail investors tend to favor meme coins, while most casual investors stick to major coins or assets like HYPE.

I still hold ZEC in my spot portfolio, and I agree that it could have a shot at breaking above $5,000. But I'll set defensive levels in stages. If it falls below $1,000, the chart will look pretty ugly.
