In a single day, all 8 target companies closed lower, with SanDisk leading the decline at 22%

On Nov. 5 U.S. Eastern Time, all 8 target companies closed lower. SanDisk led the declines at -22.26%, followed by Western Digital at -17.35% and AMD at -17.26%. Even Google, which had the smallest drop, fell 2.20%.

The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index fell 12.25%. Reuters called it the biggest one-day drop since March 2020.

The declines had nothing to do with fundamentals: AMD reported third-quarter revenue of $13.4 billion, up 45% year over year. Its earnings report itself had not deteriorated. The market was pricing in regulatory expectations after the election, not earnings.
