[Explainer] What did Bitcoin’s Taproot upgrade change?
Taproot consists of three proposals—BIP-340, BIP-341, and BIP-342—which define Schnorr signatures, Taproot spending rules, and Tapscript, respectively.
Taproot improves privacy because when spending through the usual path, complex scripts such as multisig and ordinary single-signature payments are difficult to distinguish on-chain. Observers cannot tell that other conditions are hidden behind them.
$BTC ’s Taproot address starts with bc1p, unlike SegWit addresses, which start with bc1q. Currently: 75806.02.
