Just saw that Apple has wrapped up a bond sale: about $7.5 billion in investment-grade bonds, with peak orders reaching roughly $31 billion—more than four times oversubscribed.

The timing is a little awkward: U.S. tech stocks have just taken a big hit, and major companies have issued a combined roughly $50 billion in bonds in the U.S. Treasury market over the past few days. The spreads on Microsoft, Meta, and Oracle’s AI infrastructure bonds were all considerably wider than Apple’s; Apple’s longest tranche (2036) ended up just about 55 basis points above Treasuries.

The proceeds are mainly for general corporate purposes, including buybacks. One analysis suggests this deal was more about “taking advantage of cheap borrowing” and prioritizing shareholder returns, rather than pouring money into AI infrastructure like other mega-cap companies.

With tech stocks tumbling and the market crowded with AI bonds, the fact that Apple’s bonds were snapped up at such tight spreads says a lot: the bond market currently favors names that “tell fewer stories and deliver more cash flow.”#苹果 #美债 #AI
