Bitcoin Flash Crash Sends Price Below $76,000; Nearly $1.1 Billion Liquidated in 24 Hours
After briefly breaking above $81,000 on Thursday, Bitcoin quickly reversed course, at one point falling to around $75,000. It was trading at about $76,000 this morning, down more than 5% in 24 hours.
Ethereum fell nearly 7% to around $2,249, while Solana dropped more than 5% to around $90. Major cryptocurrencies broadly came under pressure.
Data from CoinGlass showed that approximately $1.09 billion in positions were forcibly liquidated across the market over the past 24 hours. Long positions accounted for 87.7%, and more than 210,000 traders were liquidated.
The catalyst was a sharp sell-off in U.S. tech stocks: the Nasdaq fell 5.5%, and risk aversion spread to crypto markets. U.S. October nonfarm payrolls data is due at 21:30 tonight, and volatility could intensify.
