A wick plunged to 75.2K, then climbed back above 76K in the morning
Last night, we asked: “A confirmed retest, or the start of another leg down?” The answer turned out to be the latter: after breaking below 80K, Bitcoin continued lower, hitting a low of 75,208 at 7 a.m. before buyers stepped in and pushed it back above 76,000.
The catalyst was the overnight sell-off in U.S. stocks: the Nasdaq fell 5.52% in a single day, its biggest one-day drop in 19 months, as AI-related stocks were broadly sold off. South Korea’s KOSPI opened down more than 8%, triggering a circuit breaker, while the Nikkei 225 fell over 5%, entering a technical bear market. Risk assets fell across the board, and crypto was no exception.
Bitcoin is currently at $76,202, down 5.63% over 24 hours; Ethereum is at $2,241, down 7.80%, ending its five-day streak of outperforming Bitcoin; and Binance Coin is at $693.6, down 3.92%, falling below the $700 mark. The total crypto market cap is $2.58 trillion, down 7.30% over 24 hours, with Bitcoin dominance at 59.3%.
Support is at 75.2K (today’s low: 75,208), followed by the 75K round-number level. Initial resistance is at 77K (today’s high: 77,006); only a move back above that would put 78K in reach.
At 16:00 today, Bitcoin and Ethereum options worth about $2.86 billion expire. The put/call ratio is 0.38, and max pain is at 79K—$3,800 above the current price. Market-maker hedging could amplify volatility ahead of expiry.
Is 75.2K the hard floor for this cycle, or just a halfway point? If Bitcoin falls below 75K, will you reduce your position or buy the dip?
