$ETH —there’s something interesting going on here. Price is ticking up slightly, but OI is shrinking: down 0.02% on the 15m and a full 0.73% on the 1h, with notional value falling by over 20 million. Positions are closing as the price rises—a classic short-covering pattern, not fresh longs coming in.

On the 5m, Binance’s liquidation proxy shows 219K, with liquidations clearly more concentrated on the buy side as shorts are forced to close. Funding rates are sitting at a recent high, and price is hugging the top of the range. That combination always makes me feel like upside is pretty limited.

The taker volume delta is -3.3%, and the buy/sell ratio is 0.94, so there aren’t actually that many people chasing longs. The 24h trading volume of 12.7 billion is substantial, but volume is only 0.9x and the Z-score is just 0.79. It may be lively, but the momentum is average.

My take: this move looks more like a push from position covering than genuine demand. If the covering is done near the top of the range and price still can’t hold, that’s worth watching out for. I’ll keep an eye on it.
