I watched U.S. stocks last night with my eyes wide open: the Nasdaq fell 5.5% in a day, the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index dropped 12%, and Nvidia fell 9.3% to close at 181.6. About $3 trillion evaporated overnight.
They’d just rallied the day after the election, and gave it all back in one night. The market’s take is that with Democrats taking control of Congress, expectations of tighter oversight of AI data centers are rising, putting chipmakers squarely in the line of fire.
My take: after a one-day plunge like this, it’s easiest to get hit from both sides the next day. Chasing either the drop or the rebound feels like catching a falling knife. I’m just watching today and will wait until the Nasdaq closes steadily for two days in a row before deciding.
Do you think this is a real risk from AI regulation, or just an excuse to take profits after the run-up?
