$ZEC
Will it see a catch-up drop today? Bottom line: there's a decent chance it will fall, but it's unlikely to drop 8% like ETH.
Why do I say that? Let's look at current prices:
ZEC is at $1,272, down just 2.5% over 24 hours; ETH is at $2,232, down 8% over 24 hours. At 9 p.m. last night, it was still at $2,392—that's a 6.6% drop overnight. BTC is at $75,891, down nearly 6% as well. The $77,000 danger line we mentioned yesterday has already been breached.
Why has ZEC held up so well? Because it already dropped ahead of the others yesterday.
After touching $1,335 yesterday afternoon, it plunged all the way to $1,212, a 9.2% drop, and only then bounced back to $1,272. The -2.5% figure you see now is based on the 24-hour change, which happens to hide that drop.
Leverage hasn't built up either. Bitget's open interest is basically unchanged from the early hours, and funding rates are neutral—there aren't a bunch of longs waiting to get squeezed, so there's little forced selling.
Just keep an eye on two levels today:
One is ETH at $2,200, just 1.5% away. A daily close below $2,200 would mean a breakdown from the wedge, with $1,754 as the next target. ZEC definitely wouldn't withstand a broad sell-off of that magnitude; the first stop would be $1,212, with $1,158 next if that breaks.
The other is BTC at $74,000. The $77,000 level has already broken, and there's no meaningful support below it. If the broader market keeps sliding, ZEC will get dragged down too.
One negative: ZEC ETFs saw $11 million in outflows yesterday, the biggest single-day outflow since October 19, and institutional money has also shifted direction.
One positive: NU7 activates at around 10:30 this morning. It was the catalyst for the previous rally. Although it's probably already priced in (beware of selling the news), at least there's a fundamental event supporting the price today.
To sum up: if ETH holds $2,200 and BTC stays around $75,000, ZEC will most likely trade within the $1,212–$1,292 range. If ETH closes below $2,200 on the daily chart, the catch-up drop is on.
