NEAR governance passed a pretty “tough” proposal: HSP-029, which gradually lowers the maximum annual issuance rate from 2.5% to 1.6%, a 36% reduction.

A few key points:
• About 99.96% voted in favor, with 3.29 million veNEAR in voting power
• The rate will be reduced linearly over 24 months, by about 0.0375 percentage points per month
• Newly issued tokens will still be distributed 90% to stakers and 10% to the treasury
• The proposal estimates that about 11.8 million fewer $NEAR will be issued over two years, with daily issuance falling from about 89,500 to 57,300 tokens

But don’t rush to call it good news: approval by vote ≠ immediate implementation. It still needs a Security Council review, a 90-day grace period, and a validator upgrade. Staking yields will also decline, and the token price fell nearly 9% that day along with the broader market.

My take: less dilution is a good thing in the long run, but in the short term, the market still calls the shots.
