Open interest is changing—how do you read futures positioning?
Before price speaks, keep leverage quiet.
Futures only care about three sets of numbers. Everything else is noise.
1. BTC 75863, 24h 75568-80962, change -5.48%.
2. BTC open interest notional: 7.19 billion dollars, 24h -7.27%
3. Account-wide long/short ratio 2.93
My take: The funding rate at 0.0100% is close to zero, and the long/short ratio is 2.93. Leverage hasn't picked a side. If it hasn't picked a side, don't use high leverage to pick one for it.
Execution ranges (based on current price ± structure, not an old chart):
- Momentum zone: Only consider chasing after it breaks above 76,470; without a break, it's a false breakout
- Buy the retest: 74,953-75,408; don't buy if it loses that range
- No-trade zone: If the 1h candle closes below 74,498, skip this trade
My position: I don't try to catch the first knife. Until the drop is accompanied by a decline in open interest, any early entry is catching a falling knife.
Data: Binance spot 24h / Binance USDⓈ-M / Yahoo daily (5-day change) / altme_fng / mempool_fees / defillama_chains / coingecko_trending. Missing numbers are left out.
When meme coins aren't outperforming BTC, are you still holding them?

Takeaway: When open interest rises and price moves sideways, it usually means both sides are adding positions—not that whales are accumulating.
Food for thought: When open interest falls and price moves sideways, position reductions aren't accumulation; the market hasn't paid for a direction yet.
