Giant collapse in the semiconductor sector
#Nvidia wipes out 400 billion dollars in its worst plunge since the 'DeepSeek effect'
Second-largest loss in history
Nvidia suffered a massive plunge, wiping out around 400 billion dollars in market value in a single trading session. The only larger loss was the all-time record set on January 27, 2025, when the arrival of the Chinese AI model DeepSeek caused the company to lose nearly US$ 600 billion.
Vertiginous stock drop: #NVDA shares fell more than 8.6%, trading around 182.80. With this move, the company erased all its gains accumulated in 2026.
Distance from the all-time high: Following the drop, shares of the technology company are 23% below their record closing price of 239.24 dollars, reached last October 6.
The political and regulatory trigger: The sell-off in chipmakers' shares was driven by fears of much tighter regulation and oversight of artificial intelligence infrastructure #AI (including moratoriums on data centers) following the Democrats' victory in the U.S. congressional elections.
