🇰🇷 SOUTH KOREA #Coree REQUESTS A TWO-YEAR DELAY OF ITS CAPITAL GAINS TAX #crypto UNTIL 2029

Finance Minister Lee Hyoung-il said Thursday that the government would ask the National Assembly to push the planned tax from 2027 to 2029, which would be the fourth delay since the plan was originally set for 2022.

"It is with a heavy heart that I announce a new proposal to delay the taxation, after its implementation has already been postponed three times," Lee said. The ministry says this delay aligns the virtual asset information exchange tax with the United States, which will begin in 2029.

Under this system, a 22% tax would apply to annual cryptocurrency capital gains exceeding 2.5 million won, or about $1,870. The government also wants investors to be able to carry forward their losses for up to three years.
