Europe’s largest asset manager, Amundi, has launched tokenized shares of its STOXX Europe 600 index fund on the Ethereum public blockchain.
Developed in partnership with asset servicing provider CACEIS, the product brings to the blockchain a flagship equity index covering 600 large- and mid-cap European companies, while retaining subscription and redemption support through traditional investment channels.
Previously, mainstream on-chain tokenized financial products were concentrated mainly in short-term government bonds and cash management instruments. Equity indices have rarely moved directly onto public blockchains, given the barriers to cross-border settlement.
Mapping a broad-based equity index covering Europe’s core markets directly onto a public blockchain signals that mainstream financial institutions are expanding their exploration of real-world asset tokenization from low-risk cash management into equity investment.
