Samsung Wallet has just activated its Stablecoin Account in the US: USDC runs on Solana, directly in the Galaxy app.
According to The Block (5/11, Samsung statement), around 82 million US Galaxy devices are compatible. Requirements: 18+, a Samsung account, and Android 13 or later. New York residents are excluded.
No separate crypto app, and no private keys for users to manage. Bastion provides custody for the stablecoin account, while Coinbase acts as sub-custodian through Coinbase Prime Vault. USDC transfers to another Samsung Wallet or a compatible external wallet: no Samsung fees. Bank transfers are available to more than 60 countries (fees vary by destination).
Initially announced on 7/10, with the go-live confirmed on 5/11. The $SOL is trading around $89.50 (−6.1% over 24 hours on Binance) as the risk tape plunges; the $USDC remains around $1.001. Market context: $BTC around $76,240 (−5.1%).
Two things to watch: real adoption, measured by post-launch USDC flows on Solana, or a limited announcement effect if the NY exclusion and top-up fees hamper usage.
