South Korean stocks hit “dual circuit breakers”: KOSPI closes down 5.28%
South Korean stocks plunged at the close on November 5. The KOSPI fell 5.28% to 5,383.80, while the KOSDAQ dropped 5.11%. Both markets triggered sell-side Sidecars during the day.
Chip stocks led the declines: SK hynix fell 9.46%, and Samsung Electronics dropped 7.57%. The intraday trigger paused the effectiveness of program trading orders for five minutes; it did not mean that trading was halted across the entire market.
The regulatory concerns and potential impact on chip demand also shown in the image remain concerns and possible scenarios, not changes to orders that have already materialized.
